ABOUT SG ScamWISE

Bamboo Builders will be launching SG ScamWISE (Well-Informed, Secured and Empowered) with the support from Google.org. Focusing on underserved youth and seniors, the initiative aims to strengthen the resilience of 100,000 Singaporeans against scams and online threats by 2026.

Research and Amplification

1

In partnership with the Tech for Good Institute, we will conduct research on the scams landscape in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia. This research will then inform curriculum development. The research will cover:

  • How AI can be both a force for good and bad in the scams landscape

  • Victim profile & psychological manipulation techniques used by scammers in top scam types: Investment scams, Job scams, Government official impersonation scams, and Love scams

Curriculum Development

2

We will create 20 hours of anti-scam gamified training curriculum that will be localised in all four local languages.

We will launch an online resource hub for members of the public, to promote overall anti-scam awareness.

Anti-Scam Training

3

We will develop a Train-the-Trainer curriculum and standardise training processes in partnership with local implementing partners like schools, organisations, and community centres.

Local partners will then leverage the online resource hub to scale the programme to upskill end beneficiaries.

Youth Ambassadors

4

Bamboo Builders will organise a nation-wide competition for youths to share their best anti-scam advocacy videos on social media.

Top ten winners from the competition will then gain the opportunity to become Bamboo Builder’s Anti-Scam Influencers. These influencers will then gain exclusive access to cybersecurity-related networking events and gain a certificate of recognition from Bamboo Builders.

HEAR IT FROM OUR TRAINERS
“When I was training our beneficiaries in digital literacy, one compelling individual story that stood out to me was that of Mr. Lim, a retired teacher in his late 70s.

He was a participant of the Care Corner Training that I did for seniors, in English and Mandarin. Mr. Lim initially approached the digital world with hesitation and skepticism, much like many of his peers. This included the fear of scanning QR codes due to the recent news. However, we used devices from the centre to understand what exactly in the QR code we need to be checking for, instead of not using it all together.

His determination and curiosity began to shine. What made his journey truly remarkable was his commitment to staying connected with his grandchildren, who had moved abroad for their studies. He saw how crucial it was to bridge the generational gap, especially in the digital age, and wanted to actively participate in their lives. He uses social media (majorly Facebook) and Whatsapp to keep in touch.

His story highlighted how digital literacy doesn't just open doors to technology but also to new opportunities for personal growth, creativity, and meaningful connections.

It reinforced the importance of bridging the digital divide for seniors and the immense potential that lies within each individual, regardless of age. Mr. Lim's journey was a powerful reminder of the positive impact that digital literacy can have on the lives of our seniors in Singapore! 😊"
